admissions

West SILC is an all-age special school for children and young people with learning difficulties. Admission to the school is via an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) which describes the provision that they need to support their learning.  Due to this requirement places fall outside of the usual School Admissions Protocol.

All pupils have the right to remain in the school until the end of the school year in which they reach 19 years of age. All of our students have learning difficulties, but this term covers a very wide range of problems. These include some students who may need a great deal of extra support during their school life and beyond. We also have some students who have a range of other problems such as hearing loss, visual impairment and physical difficulties. Where appropriate we try to have our students included in mainstream education. This may be through one of our partnership provisions. For some children they remain on the SILC roll but are based in a partnership school with some access to mainstream lessons and a range of lessons delivered by SILC staff.

We are able to meet the needs of children and young people with Moderate Learning Difficulties, Severe Learning Difficulties, Complex and Multiple Learning Needs, Autism and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs across our range of settings and the right placement for your childs individual needs.

Admissions can take place at any point in the school year if there is an open place.

requesting a place at west silc

To request a place at West SILC, you need to discuss this with your Casework Officer and hold an EHCP Annual Review.  The Authority will then consult with Schools (including ourselves) to see if they are able to meet your child's needs through all the provisions identified within their Statement or Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).

The Local Authority admissions arrangements can be found by clicking the button below, which will take you to the Leeds SEND Local Offer page which contains further useful information.
